Gray Christmas Tree Lighting
Ceremony
As
active members of the Gray Business Association, Mike &
Rhonda Miller participate in many of the functions that take
place here in Gray, TN. This year Rhonda volunteered her time
to hand out hot chocolate for GBA at the annual Gray Christmas
Tree Lighting Ceremony. Her little Christmas tree, decorated
with small packages of marshmallows for the hot chocolate, was
a hit!

Spotlight

Mike Miller has been in the office
environments business for (20) years. He began his career back
in the 80's with a local furniture dealer as their operations
manager. He learned the furniture industry from the
ground up and earned valuable experience in many roles
including new business development, account management, sales
manager, and vice president. He and his wife Rhonda then took
that experience and started ModularDesigns together
almost (5) years ago. "It has been a great and
liberating experience to be involved in something new and
fresh in the Tri-Cities. Rhonda and I have truly been
blessed to have been given the opportunity to be a part of
such a rich and successful heritage that the OfficeEnvironments/ ModularDesigns family of
businesses have developed over the past (20) years.
Their vision, mission, and culture truly differentiate them
from other traditional furniture dealers. Our partners
have spoken into our lives in so many ways and our future hope
is that we can pass that same legacy on to
others." Mike is active in the community and in
his local Rotary Club. He is an avid runner and enjoys
competing in local and regional road races. Mike and his wife
Rhonda reside in Gray not far from their business. They enjoy
spending time together, growing their business, and watching
their son Mykal perform on the King College cross country and
track
teams.

Spotlight Erwin
Utilities
 The original building that houses
Erwin Utilities was built in 1955, so you can imagine
the excitement of the renovation project for both the
employees and customers of Erwin
Utilities.
The concept for the construction began nearly 10
years ago. General Manager Lee Brown worked with
the Architectural Firm of Beeson, Lusk and Street and
Interior Designer Julie Schwab to develop the beautiful
renovation plan. ModularDesigns was
fortunate to be involved in the project as the main
supplier of the seating and office furniture selected by
Julie.
 The first
phase of the project is complete with wonderful results.
The contrast of the rich cherry woods with the dark
black granite and the unique architectural elements in
the lobby are stunning. There are individually secured
offices for added safety, handicapped accessible
restrooms, new heating units and motion sensing lights,
designed for energy conservation. The wood
furniture from Gunlocke in the conference room and
executive offices have tradition and value elegantly
expressed in Gunlocke's Kensington 2.0 furniture
line. The box
trim moldings enhance the natural beauty of cherry and
the richly figured cerejeira veneers. Offices are
also enhanced by the clean-lined Medley product by
Gunlocke with the clear tech finish on the work
surfaces. Additionally, the fabrics selected by
Julie for the guest seating, which are also Gunlocke,
are a perfect complement to the wood finishes, carpet
and paint colors in the
space.
"It was a pleasure working with Connie Whitaker
and ModularDesigns.
The Gunlocke furniture exceeded my
expectations. The installation went very
well. I was most impressed by the attention to
detail given by Tim and Connie during the installation
and the fast response they provided to any questions or
concerns we had." - Lee Brown, Erwin
Utilities ModularDesigns is
proud to be a part of a renovation that will be a
landmark in the community and hopefully take care of
their needs for another 50 years.

Design Discoveries
Color in most interior spaces can
be planned to achieve desired effects. Color can
be employed to energize, inspire, aggravate or
stimulate, depending on the clients' vision for the
space. People have a lot of variety in their likes
and dislikes concerning colors. Most are
influenced from early emotions linked to certain colors
and it is a very personal bias. It is the
designer's job to listen to the client and guide them in
their color selections. Colors that will create an
atmosphere which best displays the environment suited to
the clients needs should be selected with
care. Color has an important impact on all
areas of our lives but can be such an inexpensive and
dramatic design tool for your interior space. When
colors are correctly selected, they can seem to make old
furniture look new, a space look larger or update the
entire facility. Benjamin Moore Aura paint
was what the world saw president-elect Barack Obama using during his
pre-inaugural "Day of Service" visit to the Sasha Bruce
House. With his sleeves rolled up, he helped other
volunteers roll on colors Laguna Blue and Yosemite
Blue. Aura was specifically chosen for its
"environmentally friendly" quality. The new
Aura paint by Benjamin Moore boasts premium performance
in a paint with incredible hide, fade and color rub-off
resistance. Richer more enticing colors are
available due to their proprietary Color Lock
technology. Color pigments are microscopically
bonded to the dry paint film permanently locking in
color, for richer, more enticing hues that will not
fade. Some of the most impressive
traits are the seamless touch-up without having to
re-paint the entire wall and the ability to use this
water-based paint over an existing oil-based paint,
which has not previously been an option. You can

President's
Corner
I wanted to say "thank you" and to also
applaud many of you that took advantage of our pre-owned
furniture options and the Economic Stimulus Act back in
November and December. Collectively, we were able to be a
part of over $250K worth of savings to our customers through
these programs. This is truly exciting and encouraging
news for us as a company to be able to assist our customers in
the advancement of their company's vision, mission, and
culture as we strongly adhere to our vision, mission, and
culture. It becomes a win/win situation when companies join
together to achieve a common goal. It has been my
privilege over the last twenty years to partner with local
businesses and their leadership to help them achieve their
goals through the development and improvement of their office
environments. I have found over the years that the
companies that had a clear written understanding of their
vision, mission, and culture were able to successfully
navigate the seas of the business world. These companies
embrace the need to clearly state to all associates the long
term goal of the business (the vision). They also clearly
identify how the business is going to accomplish the vision
(the mission). And finally, they understand the need to
establish a culture that guides the behavior and character of
the company. Every business has the opportunity
to promote these principles. And to the extent that enough
businesses successfully regenerate them, storms may be
turbulent but they will also be brief.
